Pairs of claws scuttling across the silent floors. Perpetual loss on all sides of an endless war, between implacably hostile states, always ended in the same stalemates. Old scars continually broken apart, driven by the beating of some mighty heart. All blind to its rhythmic truth, they devise and coexist in an uneasy truce. Countless oases each convinced it was alone in the abyssal plains and ruined castles they call home--all on indefinite stay of execution: to be swept up, and drift away in the endless solution. We are trapped between the fire and ice, a thousand chapters lost in the book of life.

Missions divergent, each one the same: pawn, knight, or king, we have played out our game. Moving with fiction or makers of myth, we deserve our square on the monolith all the same. All struggling is struggling for the struggling to struggle no more. We are the haphazard helpless target of scorn from a self-righteous, entitled, reigning firstborn. In the final days, don't be so quick to hush the cries of a newborn, shrill and robust. He'll ward off the plummet with copious thrust, on moons of ice and planets of rust. In building the latticework we'll find that we must come to ally with the things we distrust. There is infinite darkness between specs of dust, so if we do not download, remember us.

about

Monolith is a concept trilogy about the development of intelligent life, the existential woes of that life becoming aware of its own mortality, and the struggles to overcome that mortality. The trilogy is based loosely around the 2001 Space Odyssey series (and other works of Arthur C. Clarke). The settings of the music take place in a far off galaxy, on Europa (a moon of Jupiter), and on Earth, in that order. Broadly, the album speaks to moral imperatives and ethical dilemmas regarding climate change, the continuation of human life (and biodiversity), and the discourses that surround sustainability. In short, the platform is fiction, but the message is universal (pun fully intended).
